Locomotives of the North Eastern Railway

Regular price £7.00 Unit price per

The North Eastern Railway's locomotive engineers had taxing traffic requirements to satisfy. At one end of the scale they had to cater for the heaviest mineral traffic carried by any of the pre-1923 railways: at the other, to provide capable motive power for a high-class express service which for many years included the fastest train in the country over the Darlington-York racing ground. Some logs of this famous flyer are featured in O. S. Nock's book, which expertly traces the development of NER locomotive practice and vividly recalls past highlights of NER locomotive performance.

In this book, first published in 1954 to mark the formation of the North Eastern Railway from an amalgamation of the York & North Midland, York, Newcastle & Berwick and Leeds Northern Railways, Mr. Nock revealed for the first time publicly some fascinating dynamometer car records of trials with NER passenger and freight locomotives.
