The London, Brighton and South Coast Railway

Regular price £8.00 Unit price per

The London, Brighton & South Coast was not a large railway, but it carried nearly four times as many passengers as the Canadian Pacific. It was not a fast railway, yet it produced a brilliant speed record. It was full of paradox, an endearing characteristic. It had its faults, but it had four essential qualities: it was well engineered, and throughout living memory it had a good Locomotive Department, exemplary signals and telegraphs, and an esprit de corps second to none in the railway world. Hamilton Ellis, who knew it well in its latter days, writes appreciatively of its good' points and tolerantly of its foibles.
