2nd edition (1963) of this card covered book looking at the line from London to Shoeburyness

The London, Tilbury & Southend was a railway that became prosperous almost by accident-- it was originally built to take Londoners to Gravesend by ferry across the Thames from Tilbury, but the growth of Southend, originally quite a secondary objective, came to provide its main traffic.

During the years of its independence, from 1875-1912, the " Tilbury " was notable for good management, smart locomotives, and a distinct character of its own. Author H. D. Welch has made considerable fresh research into contemporary records for this account of its history.

Softback, 38 pages, table of locomotives; black & white photographs, map
