London & South Western Locomotives

Regular price £7.00 Unit price per

Enlarged 1971 edition

This miniature pictorial history gives the fullest details of London & South Western Locomotives from the company's original incorporation in 1832 as the London & Southampton, over the years of its gradual expansion until it became the major constituent of the newly formed Southern Railway i n 1923. The fascinating period of nearly a hundred years under the respective superintendencies of the brothers Beattie, William Adams, Dugald Drummond and R. W. Urie, is covered to great depth. All sorts and conditions of LSWR locomotives are included, right through the period, with the main emphasis on the older and relatively scarce types, rather than on more recent ones reproduced so prolifically elsewhere. As well as being a most valuable source of reference, it is felt that the volume will help to perpetuate the memory of the engines of a well loved railway to those who were fortunate enough to remember them in their heyday.
