London's Trams - A View from the Past

Regular price £5.00 Unit price per

The origins of the London tram net-work date back to the 1860s when George Francis Train introduced the first horse cars to the metropolis. but it was not until 1933 that all of London's tramcars came under single ownership. Up until that point, the capital's trams were controlled by a number of municipal and company operators. Al its peak, the London tramway network was by far the largest in the British Isles: even after the conversions to trolleybus operation in the period from 1931 to 1940, there remained more than 800 trams in service until the late 1940s. The final elimination of London's trams came in July 1952.
