A detailed record of the D&RG narrow gauge Stock Cars with extensive drawings and photos etc. 251pp. Limited edition of 902 copies (each one numbered after a car - this being 5256).

Handsomely done history by Victor J Stone of the Denver & Rio Grande's development of narrow gauge stock cars which revolutionized the cattle industry in Colorado, allowing for rapid shipment of cattle to market. The book covers the story from the earliest cars in 1873, discussing the 19th century cars (#5001-#5452) and the 20th century cars (#5500-5849 and #5900-5999) in detail with blueprints, schematic diagrams and illustrated throughout with black and white photos of the cars. The book also included a thorough consideration of variations from the standard car, painting and numbering, the Denver Union Stock Yard and other DRGW stockyard facilities, car orders, stock schedules, livestock reports, the Powderhorn Pool, and restored and surviving cars. An invaluable reference work done in an elegant and attractive fashion.
