The Aerofilms Book of Britains Railways from the Air

Regular price £8.00 Unit price per

Aerial photography is routinely used in aspects of commercial development, plan-ning and map preparation work, and since the dawn of aviation the usefulness of aerial reconnaissance has been recognised. By the time of World War 1 the camera was being taken aloft to provide a record of such reconnaissance sorties, and it was as a result of such wartime service that Aerofilms was founded. The company's photographic library thus contains a priceless collection of views, taken throughout the UK, covering the period from 1919 to the present. This book contains a selection of the best illustrations featuring railways and railway installations, from the Aerofilms library. They will be of interest to railway enthusiasts, modellers and students of railway history, and also to those with only a passing interest in the subject but who are fascinated by a novel viewpoint on the British land-scape. Extended captions draw attention to the main features, while filling in the facts and figures, and perhaps pointing out the less obvious details. Most of the Aerofilms material is previously unpublished and this book represents the first major work featuring this unique viewpoint on the rail system. The subjects range from individual trains and single locomotives to complete stations, and overviews of major railway sites. The earliest views date from the 1920s while the most recent colour views were taken by Aerofilms specially for this book.
