The County Donegal Railways

Regular price £15.00 Unit price per

Third edition (1982 edition) of this fascinating history of the County Donegal Railways which was the largest narrow gauge railway system in the British Isles and which ran steam and diesel locomotives simultaneously right up to the end in 1959/60. The railway evolved from the standard gauge Finn Valley Railway and the narrow gauge West Donegal Railway into the Donegal Railway (eventually owned by Midland Railway and the Irish Great Northern). Covers the construction and operation of the lines, including rationalisation and regauging, operations during "the troubles," the economy campaigns, pioneer work with railcars, and coping with ageing steam locomotives. There is also delightful discussion of the dedicated and enthusiastic staff. Illustrated with black and white photos. With rosters, list of stations and halts, and maps.

Hardback with dust jacket, 208 pages with index. Black & white photographs
