The Great Western Railway's Last Look Forward, being a Reprint of "Next Station"

Regular price £6.00 Unit price per

By the time this book was published, just before nationalisation, it had be-come clear that the Great Western's last look forward was a theoretic exercise; soon the question was to be what Great Western features would be accepted by British Railways as a whole, and which rationalised out of existence. But when the material on which the book is based was being produced, the GW genuinely planned its own continued greatness in a changing eta. As had happened at earlier times in the railway's history planning involved a mixture of updated traditionalism and more far-reaching innovation. Here we can see something of the GWR that never was. This is a reprint of the book originally published by the GWR in 1947 under the title Next Station. Christian Barman briefly re-news his association with the railway to contribute a new introduction to his book.
