The LMS Wagon

Regular price £12.00 Unit price per

The wide variety of freight carried on the LMS, largest of the four group companies, was reflected by the large number of wagon types built by the railway in its 25 years of existence. They ranged from the many general traffic open wagons and vans to massive special purpose wagons designed for the conveyance of heavy plant and machinery, built in ones or twos.

This book describes constructional methods and each basic wagon type originated by the LMS, chapter by chapter, with sub-divisions to cover the many design variations, and the liveries and insignia applied at different periods in the company's history. Tables summarise principal dimensions, building and numbering details, while more than 100 photographs and diagrams, the latter produced to the popular modelling scale of 4mm 1ft, provide modellers with a wealth of material.
The authors have undertaken much original research into official records, diagram books, and stock lists, supplemented by personal records and photo- graphs to compile what will undoubtedly become the definitive work on wagons built by or for the LMS and to its designs by British Railways.
