Southern Sunset '67
Featuring every Southern Steam Locomotive to operate in 1967, John Bird's fourth work is a highly acclaimed book looking at the last six months of steam operation on the Southern.
Few who were alive at the time can forget those days of mixed emotions when steam gave way to electric and diesel traction, going out in a blaze of glory with a large following of enraptured enthusiasts.
SOUTHERN SUNSET '67 is very different to its predecessors - it is a pictorial tribute to every one of the 122 main line steam locos that survived on January 1st 1967, as well as those on the Isle of Wight and in Departmental Service, backed up with plenty of factual information, informative captions and a special feature on the last weekend of steam, the aftermath and ultimate survival of some of those locomotives.
Softback, 144 pages, around 300 top quality photographs in both black & white and colour, the majority of which have never been seen in print before.
