Unique in its day, it operated a varied assortment of electric interurban-type trams, which followed the attractive route through busy streets and town centres, as well as through tranquil fields and beside the sea, carrying both local people and hoards of holidaymakers.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn the years before the private car began to really establish itself after the war, the popularity of the trams was immense during the summer, and they did brisk business that produced sufficient revenue to see them through the leaner winter months. Regrettably, after the war the system began to go into decline, and although its popularity was as great as ever, behind the scenes the picture was rather differ-ent. The end came in March 1956, when the company switched its activi-ties to motor buses. These struggled for a further five years against the might of the better-equipped Crosville company, before ceasing altogether in 1961.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis nostalgic collection of more than 160 photographs, supported by evocative captions, tickets, timetables, handbills and selected 'past and pre-sent' comparative views, allows us to experience once more that familiar tramride along the coast and feel the tang of the sea air in our nostrils!
