A Pictorial Record of LNER Wagons
An interest in railways and railway modelling has been Peter Tatlow's main pastime since he can remember. Born during the golden age of the 'Big Four', some of his earliest memories are of journeys undertaken during World War II. Following military service in the Royal Engineers, he joined the Chief Engineer's Department of the Southern Region of British Railways, leaving over ten years later having qualified as a chartered civil engineer and has since worked on the design and construction of motorway bridges.
With the decline of the steam locomotive on BR, the author's thoughts have turned back to the interwar period and his attention has been directed to some of the other facets of the railway scene and in particular to wagons. Although his stated preference is for the LMS (Highland Section), finding a gap in published information on LNER wagons he has tried with the assistance of other members of the LNER Study Group to redress the balance initially by a series of articles in the periodical Model Railway Constructor and now in "A Pictorial Record of LNER Wagons',
This book sets out to portray the wagons of the LNER by means of over 35 photographs and 89 drawings, many of official origin with a seasoning of material from other sources for variety. Each page is provided with an extended caption to the illustrations and a comprehensive introduction and useful appendices are Included. Although likely to be of interest to the railway student in general, this book is particularly directed at those wishing to model these wagons.
