HST - The Second Millenium

Regular price £14.00

It is now ten years since UK rail privatisation and the HST fleet still remains the mainstay of main line diesel power for the principle operators. However, this year will see the next generation of Inter City Express or HST2 ordered, resulting in the final refurbishment of the 30 year-old HST fleet. This bright new book takes the story of the HSTs forward from the 1996-97 privatisation period through to the present day, covering all refurbishment and modernisation projects, such as the recent launch of the Grand Central Railway. The new Measurement Train and its developments are also examined. One of the most significant changes is of course the re-engineering of the power cars for First Group and GNER with the fitting of new MTU power units. Written by leading railway author Colin Marsden, this book is a must-have for all those eager to finish the HST story, as the railway industry moves into the future with the HST2. Highlights of this title include over 250 colour illustrations and a series of fully updated and detailed tables covering information on the entire fleet of power cars and trailer stock, with renumbering, rebuilding and design changes all incorporated. Published to coincide with the production of the first HST2, this is the perfect volume for all those who wish to reflect on the many years of service the HSTs have given, as they approach their twilight days.

Hardback with dust jacket, 160 pages, over 250 colour photographs
