The Isle of Man has always been a fascinating island. Even to this day, it has always been a haven for the transport enthusiast, such as the author.

Until a few years ago, there was a most interesting bus scene on the island, with two companies operating there. The first of which was the Isle of Man Road Services, who operated to places outside of Douglas. Whilst the second was the Douglas Corporation Transport, which maintained the local services, in the capital. Both operators utilised a wide variety of vehicles, many of which were in service for a total of twenty-five years. The Douglas Corporation Transport purchased its first motor buses in 1914, whilst the Isle of Man Road Services were formed in 1928.

There are also three forms of tramway in operation today: the Manx Electric Railway, the Snaefell Mountain Railway and the Douglas Horse Trams.

In 1976, the assets of the Douglas Corporation Transport and those of the Isle of Man Road Services were merged to form the Isle of Man National Transport. This subsequently became the Isle of Man Passenger Transport Board, in 1983. Sadly, the eighties have caught up with the Transport Board, who now run a relatively modern fleet. This consists solely of Leyland Nationals and Leyland Atlanteans. It should be pointed out that a number of these were purchased secondhand, however they add a variety to the vehicles being photographed.
