Manchester Victoria Station

Regular price £16.95
Manchester Victoria was the hub of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway and in its heyday, the busiest station outside London. Parts of it date from 1844 and Tom describes the history and development of the station as it expanded to meet the growing traffic. The buildings are comprehensively described and illustrated and track plans show how the facilities grew to meet demand.

There are sections dealing with some of Victoria's unique features such as the overhead parcel carrier, the signalling school and the train control centre.

The final chapters take the story through the BR years of decline and up to the arrival of the Metrolink tramway.

A fascinating story of one of our most interesting stations.
