When the route finally closed railway enthusiasts joined forces with local inhabitants to 'preserve the puffer for posterity', and they eventually reopened the five mile section from Sheffield Park to Horsted Keynes in August 1960 - called the Bluebell Railway, after the wild flowers which decorate the lineside in spring.
