Ruston & Hornsby Locomotive Album
A 112 page hardback containing over 100 black & white photos, scale drawings, catalogue sketches and extracts.
Ruston & Hornsby Ltd was formed in 1918 by amalgamation of two predecessors, already pioneers of internal combustion locomotives. In 1931 the production of smaller diesel locos commenced, and the firm was set to become the largest such builder in the UK. By the time building ceased in 1969, over 6500 machines had been constructed in a wide variety of gauges, power outputs, wheel arrangements and transmissions. Initial models were for the narrower gauges, but from 1936 standard gauge locos were also offered. This album illustrates the scale and scope of production, and is largely illustrated by photos from the Ruston official archive - often showing machines on test within the Lincoln works. Other illustrations show machines at work in construction, industry, quarrying, the mainline railway network - and mine haulage underground. Catalogue extracts and drawings also help to make this an invaluable reference for the transport enthusiast.
