The Last Merseyrail Signal Boxes: Part 2, The Northern Line
From the introduction: Our signal box survey is primarily intended to record the interesting collection of boxes on the electrified Merseyrail network which were replaced, at a stroke, by commissioning of the IECC installation at Sandhills in 1994. However, in view of the interesting history of mechanical signalling on the network, we have not confined our brief and have also considered the highpoints of some of the key locations on the network. Chapters include:
- Historical Background
- James Street PSB
- Southport Station
- Portland Street
- Duke Street
- Aughton Road
- Eccles Crossing
- Hall Road
- Brook Hall Road
- Bootle Junction
- The Ormskirk Line
- Town Green
- Walton Junction
- Looking back - the 'lost' boxes
- Appendices (including details of IECC commissioning)
