The Wigan Branch Railway was a relatively short branch line from Parkside, opening in 1832, where a connection was made with the Liverpool & Manchester Railway, to Wigan and, was the final link in a system of early standard gauge railways which connected all the major industrial towns of North-West England, namely:- Liverpool, Bolton, Manchester, Warrington, Wigan and St. Helens. Features views at Parkside, Lowton Junction, Golborne, Bamfurlong, Springs Branch, Wigan, Kirkless, Central Wagon, Springs Branch Shed etc.The intriguing history of this railway, which would eventually become an integral part of the WCML, is portrayed in 240 black & white illustrations, 36 area maps and large 4 page pull-out of Wigan N.W. c1941.
