Stan Collins' lively memories of a lifetime spent as a London tramwayman have become a classic of transport and social history. Born in Brixton in 1899, Stan Collins was the son of a cable-tram driver. Apart from military service, he worked on London's trams from 1913 until 1951, when he drove the ceremonial last tram through Streatham.

In his own words Stan Collins brings alive the Great War, the hard times of the 1920's, the hazards of the London blitz, and the humour of a job which he enjoyed immensely and remembers with great fondness.
